Legal Question in Personal Injury in Michigan

Is it illegal to distribute personal letters that were not sent to you?

Is it illegal for a person to obtain personal letters from my residence (they are renting) after finding them in my house and distributing them either on the internet or directly? The letters were addressed to me and were in a bag with some other things that were left at the house with the understanding and agreement by both parties that the remaining items would be picked up at a later date. Upon returning to the house to pick up said items half of the letters were missing and no word as to where they are. Items from someone else were in the bag when I picked it up. What legal recourse do I have it these letters get out? They were sent directly to me and no one else other than the sender knows about them.
