joint ownership rights

when disputes arise between joint owners, can an outright sale of the property be forced by law, even if one owner wants to purchase the property.

Hello,

Yes, there can be a court ordered sale, or in the alternative, a court-ordered division of the property if that is possible (e.g. acreage).

The concept is called "partition" and it is an action that is filed in a Michigan Circuit Court.

The procedures are sufficiently technical such that an attorney that specializes in real property issues would be highly recommended.
