Legal Question in Tax Law in Michigan

My roomate cashed my state income tax check!

Last March I decided totake a trip down to Cost Rica. When I returned, I asked my roomate for any mail. I had been excpecting my taxreturn check for some time already. She denined ever seeing it. For the next two weeks I asked her about every other day. She never saw it. Finally all fed up, I decided to call the IRS to see if it had been cashed or sent or what? Befor I could even talk to them, my roomate told me she cashed it while I was on vacation. She ''needed the money'' and she ''planned to pay me back''. I havn't seen the money, and I no longer live with her or even talk to her. Is it worth my time to do something, or should I put it in the hands of the gov't, or just forget about it? It was over $100.00 and she did sign my name on it, and she cashed it at her old place of employment. (where she just happened to get fired from for being a suspect in stealing monney...which she did) hope you can help!

If it is not worth it for you to get it back and you don't want to press charges, then don't do anything. If you want to get the money back because of principle or you want to teach her a lesson, there is a few options we can follow up on. Please feel free to call or e-mail me. I am here to help. Best wishes!
