Legal Question in Traffic Law in Michigan

Suspended DL

I had moved out of Mich and have an out of state legal DL. However, After I left there was a ticket on my old DL from Mich and the DMV suspended my mich lic which I thought was renounced anyway. I got pulled over in Mich with the out of state license and was written up for Driving on a suspended Michigan DL regardless. I live 1500 miles away and now have a bench warrant that the court will not let me take care of via mail, etc. They insist I must turn myself in to clear the warrant for the charge. This is VERY impractical and would jeopardize my job. For the charge, I feel this is cruel and unusualy punishment when I am sure the court wants fines anyway. Do I have any legal rights to surrendor or plea by proxy/attny etc??? The Magistrate is really sticking to her guns that I have no choice but to handle this in person.

Any help or advice is greatly appraciated!

Mike

Re: Suspended DL

Your notice to appear has the court's telephone number. Call the court clerk for the name and number of the local Bar association. Call them and ask for an attorney who handles traffic matters in that court. The attorney should give you a no charge telephone consultation.

There is a way to resolve this without your personal appearance.
