Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Michigan

My father and I have property together.

My father put me ( Julie )on his property deed in 2003.

Since then as of July of 2005

my sister (Angie ) put him in a nursing home. She ( Angie ) is now his Durable Power of Attorney. Is she the POW financially responsable for the property taxes being paid until our father dies. Then it is up to me (Julie ) to continue paying the property taxes ?

Re: My father and I have property together.

In short, with you and your father both on the deed you are BOTH responsible for the payment of taxes. After his passing you will be responsible as the remaining property owner. At this time if you father still wishes to pay the taxes, your sister should honor his request to continue to do so.

Failure of your sister to do so may be cause for your father's revocation of the POA if he is able. If your sister is a conservator (appointed by the court) over your father then you may be able to petition the court for appropriate action.
