Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Michigan

Funeral expenses

My mother in law passed away without a will about a month ago. There was a written will that may have been stolen in her purse. She had 2 life inscurance policies..1 for 10k to cover the cost of the funeral and excess was to be divided up between the brother and sister. The one for 15k was to be divided up 3 ways. 5.5k for the sister,9.5k for my husband and about 4.5 k of that amount of the brothers was to pay for the only grandchilds life inscurance policy which was a gift from the mom in law. The sister in law disagreed with the amount and also wanted funds to cover for her plane ticket. The sister in law split it 50/50 and is refusing to pay her half of funeral expenses. The funeral agreement was signed by the brother. Would we have to take the sister to court for the funeral expenses or would that be taken care of in another way? Would we have to give up our daughters life inscurance policy because the sister in law is refusing to pay her half? (there are documents proving that is what mom in law wanted stated the life inscurance provider and we also have a witness with the sister in law stating she would pay her half) Mom in law had--name removed--other monies only the 2 inscurance policies.

Re: Funeral expenses

I think that you would probably have to take her to court and ask for attorneys fees for having to pursue that avenue.
