Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Michigan

Wills

My husband and myself just finished updating our wills and signed them last week. The lawyer was not present at the signing but an assistant was, we were also asked to sign in blue ink. Is this common practice regarding the lawyer not being present and I thought all legal documents needed to be signed in black?

Re: Wills

There is not really a common practice concerning whether an attorney or his assistant is present. Having an assistan present is not inappropriate on its face.

Many estate planning attorneys have original signatures in blue ink because it is easier to distinguish between originals and copies. I think that is a good idea.
