Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Minnesota

How do I protect myself from my fiancee's bankruptcy/IRS trouble

My fiancee had an IRS debt that he went bankrupt over to release him from the debt. He is now bankrupt and supposedly he is released from this debt. ( I on the other hand have excellent credit.) Now we are about to get married. I am about to purchase land (before we get married) to build on eventually, but I am afraid that his bankruptcy and past IRS trouble means that they will start coming after me and take the land that I am about to sink my life savings into from me. How can I avoid this from happening? Is there any way that I can protect myself against this or any other negative effects from his IRS troubles and bad credit history?
