Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Minnesota

I took out a loan many years ago for my then significant other to help him pay off his contract for deed, child support, credit card and property tax. We were together for 16 years. He always made the monthly payment which was directly withdrawn from his account and payment made on the loan. . Three years ago, we split up and he quit making the payments which diverted the payment withdrawal to my account. He refuses to make payments. He owns property and I suggested the option of quit claiming me a piece of property and then I would be glad to make the payments. He says I ruined his life by splitting with him and he needs to live too. Is there anything I can do?

I recommend that you sue him for the remaining amount owing. You likely have a six year statute of limitation. I recommend immediate action. If I can help, my e-mail is [email protected].

Since you were not married, the law sees you as strangers.

However, since you had a relationship, you may not want to rush into Court (if it ever opens!).

I suggest first having an experienced Business Attorney do a Demand Letter, and if that does not get him to respond, recommend setting up a Mediation to try and settle it informally.

Call or email for further help.

I am located in Eden Prairie.
