Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota

i sub contracted from a guy and finished multiple jobs before getting paid because it was never a problem in the past. then i quit the trade and got a new job, and this person held it against me and now refuses to pay me $1389.00 how do i go about getting my money. i also recieved threatening text messages from him in which i called the police yet decided against pressing charges after the officer i talked to told me it was a uphill battle. i have obtained and kept copies of said text messages. what is the next step or steps i should take to get paid from this person and have this finished. if this is the wrong area of law, could you please direct me to what area of law i should classify this under. thank you.

This seems to be a case for conciliation court as far as your money. It is a fairly simple process. Just go to the Minnesota Courts' web site for more information. http://www.mncourts.gov/selfhelp/?page=313.

As far as the text messages, if they get unbearable you could seek a harassment order. There is info on this to on the Courts web site.

Good Luck!
