Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota

Statute of limitations

I was arrested in July of 2004 for stealing oxycontin from my pharmacy I worked for to pay for a dental procedure I needed to have done. I sat in the county jail for about 4 hours then I talked with the drug task force. They recorded all of the information and I gave them all the info I could. I refused right to counsel I just wanted this over and wanted to go home. I was dismissed around 1100 pm. NOTHING EVER HAPPENED! No court date, no prosecution or anything. The BCA shows as of today I have no criminal record. (which i don't) but I still can't get a job because of my background. I contacted the police station where I was apprehended and they said they still have a pending investigation. HOW CAN THEY DO THAT???

Re: Statute of limitations

The shortest statutory limitations period on criminal prosecutions is three years, depending upon the type of offense. See Minnesota Statutes Section 628.26.

It's generally not a good idea to contact the police and remind them of your case.
