Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota

Theft& Possesion with intent to sell

I have a son that is going to be sentenced on Feb. 13 on two felony charges of theft. And now before he has gotten sentenced he got picked up on theft charges and possesion with intent to sell. His bail before was $1000. with a bondsmen! He has lost that due to a bond violation! What are we looking at for bail and do you think that there will be jail or prison time involved? He is only 19 years old and has already had two felonies dropped down to gross misdamedors as a juvinil. Thank you!

Therefore, he may want to get himself admitted to a chemical dependency treatment program, as soon as possible -- with other sobriety supports, such as AA attendance, in the meantime.

I don't know enough about this case to say much about likely bail, but I think you are right to expect it will be higher, under the circumstances.

As for defenses and expectations for various potential dispositions, he should consult with a lawyer, including giving the lawyer a chance to review the police version of events, as well as his.

Obviously feony charges are very serious. In most cases theft charges can be reduced so that you son is not burdened with felonies into the future.

Without knowing more about the conditions of release and his purported violation, it is hard to respond to that question.
