Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota

theft, talking to authorities

I made a huge mistake and took a co workers credit card. I took back the items I bought out of guilt and never used the money (it was under $300). The police caught me on surveillance video and contacted me via phone. What can happen to me as far as convition goes? I have a clean record aside from parking tickets. I spoke to the officer on the phone but should I have? Is there any reason when I shouldn't have said anything to him? Is this against my rights? Can this matter be settled out of court? IS there any circumstances where I can avoid a jail sentence? Please help! I made a huge mistake and I'm scared I'm going to lose everything and everyone in my life!

See my other reply to your other, similar question.

In addition, do not talk to police under any circumstances, since you are a suspect. To do so would be a foolish mistake and cause tremendous damage to your case. They are allowed to lie to you, often will lie to you, and will manipulate you -- all to your detriment. Only a criminal defense lawyer, like me, can help you now.
