Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota

withheld adjudication

Over 20 yrs. ago I received a withheld adjudication for 'Trafficking in Cannibis'. I would love to pursue a career in law enforcement but am not sure if I should state I was convicted of a felony. A withheld adjudication absolves me of any conviction, correct? A background check reveals a clean record, but fingerprints don't. $20,000+ is a lot to spend on a career I may have no chance of getting.

Re: withheld adjudication

First of all, if adjudication was withheld, you were not convicted. However, an arrest and charging record would still exist. Since you were not convicted, you may even expunge that record. however, an expungement seals the records to all, except law enforcement. As a result, it would still be accessible for law enforcement job.
