Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Minnesota

Discriminated for who I am

I have a question, if I was in a public place of recreation where many straight couples were making out and kissing, and I, a female kissed my girlfriend, a small little peck on the lips, is the owner allowed to kick me out of his establishment? If a straight person can do what ever with their partner, shouldn't I be able to?

Is public kissing by gays a protected activity?

The federal discrimination statute protects certain persons in an employment environment. State statutes, as in Mass., do, too. And, of course, in the housing market. A few decades ago, Blacks won the right to sit anywhere on a bus, be served in any restaurant, book a room in any hotel. More recently, in Boston, gays fought for the right to have a gay parade in "Southie." Some states have even granted the right to gays to marry. So your logic is in line with what would logically be expected. Check with some of the gay rights groups in yur state. Call your local Bar association andget a referral to a local atty concentrating in gay rights. He/she will be able to tell your rights also under your state statutes. Although sexual harassment is a form of discrimination, there is sometimes a separate statute which addresses sexual harassment on its own, giving protection in a non-employement context. Again you must check with a local atty who will be able to tell you whether your state has such a statute.Be prepared to tell him/her whether there were witnesses . . . witnesses whom you know . . . and all the details surrounding your eviction from the owner of the night club (or whatever it was ).

Good luck!
