Legal Question in DUI Law in Minnesota

Limited License

After the revocation period, and assuming you are issued a limited licence, can you drive any vehicle during that ''work permit'' time? Or can you only drive the one vehicle that has the special plates on it?

Re: Limited License

Techincally, the person who got the DWI with a plate impoundment can only drive a vehicle with those special plates for one year from the date of the offense. Violation of this rule is a misdemeanor. However, this rule is rarely enforced. As long as you are driving with a valid license or work permit, most police officers will not bother to connect the dots on the plate impoundment.

Re: Limited License

You can drive any vehicle, as long as you are within the terms of your license. Make sure the vehicle is insured and has up-to-date tabs. And if it's not yours, make sure you are clear that you have permission.

One more thing. If you are arrested for a DWI now while driving someone else's car, that vehicle will be seized by the state. I'm sure you would feel really bad about causing someone else's car to disappear. I get a lot of calls about that very thing. Don't you be one of them. If you are going to have a car seized, it should at least be your own.

You might want to look at my special plates page at http://www.mn-dwi.com/seizure.html.
