Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

Disobeying Court Order

June 1,2007 my ex-husband stopped paying me alimony.Sept.20th his motion to modify his spousal maintenance was denied, and he has yet to pay the arrears and court ordered maintenance. Theres some difficulty garnishing his wages, and he is obviously and willfully disobeying a court order. He also communicates his desire to sit in jail! I know incarceration might be effective in my situation. What are my options? What can happen here?

Re: Disobeying Court Order

File a contempt motion in court. If the judge finds him in contempt, the judge will order him to either pay or stay (in jail).

Re: Disobeying Court Order

Well, I suppose that you should put him in jail. You will have to use the Order to Show Cause procedure with a motion to find him in contempt. The Court will likely find him in contempt and give him a chance to cure on penality of jail. Dennis
