Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

Dissolution w/o children - what if there was a child?

Through case.net i found a record of a relative's divorce. I was surprised to see that it was called a ''dissolution of marriage w/o children''. This relative has complained to others that she has never received child support from her ex-husband, but there was no judgment or award made to her in the circuit court record, since there was no child mentionned. Is there any way or would there be a reason why someone with a child would get a dissolution w/o children if they had a child by that marriage? And who actually has legal custody (the child is passed back between parents now)

in a case like this?

I would need to see the divorce decree before I could make any judgments or give any advice on the situation.

There are several possibilities. Perhaps the child had been conceived but not yet been born at the time of the divorce. The mother may not have known she was pregnant yet. Or, perhaps there were some paternity issues pertaining to the child. Or it might be that the parties thought they could get divorced quicker and easier, if they claimed to have no children. Perhaps they were trying to avoid custody litigation. Or it might have been something else altogether. Without talking with them and reading the decree, it's really not possible to know what happened.
