Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

I filed an uncontested joint divorce, I called the court house and was told that I was sent a letter for me to come to a court default hearing, then I called back to ask an additional question as to what all is involved in a default hearing, I was then told that the hearing would be cancelled due to it was a joint undcontested divorce, can you tell me about how long will the divorce take? We don't have children or property together.

If you have filed the paperwork and don't need a hearing it's a matter of the judge reviewing your documents, the court drafting the order, the judge signing off, and the judgment getting entered. It will depend on the court's backlog but usually is a few weeks. You'll get a notice in the mail.

Hello. Typically in a situation such as you describe the judge (or court referee) assigned to review your divorce will rule within a matter of days to a few weeks. However, at times the court may experience delays, for a variety of reasons. The judge deciding your case always has the authority to have you appear for a hearing regarding any matters the judge believes ought to be addressed. Should you need attorney counsel: Some attorneys, myself included, are available seven days for emergency legal needs. Many attorneys will confer initially at no charge. Then, if legal work is performed, some attorneys, myself included, will provide a reduced fee for financial hardship. All the best.
