Certain assets are viewed as non-marital under Minnesota law. One such category of assets would be property that is inherited. If that property is kept separately and not commingled with marital assets, in a divorce it is likely to be awarded to the inheriting spouse. Only under very rare circumstances will a court invade and fdivide non-marital assets.
