You are not responsible for someone else's child support. Despite that, there may be instances when your money is affected. For instance, if you and your spouse have a state or federal tax return pending and there is a child support case open with a county, the child support office may intercept your tax return. You would have to request that your portion of the tax return be returned to you. Also, if you and your spouse have money in the bank, the child support office may try to capture that money. Finally, if your spouse does not pay his child support, there are other enforcement remedies such as contempt, driver's license suspension, etc. that may also affect you. Life for your spouse will probably be easier (and less stressful for your marriage) if the child support is paid.
