Legal Question in Juvenile Dependency in Minnesota

Junevile driver's liability

My 17 year old wants a car. I do not want the liability of having her on my auto insurance and driving by herself. At her age, if she owns the car and buys her own auto insurance, does this remove the liability from her parents if she is in an auto accident? Are we liable anyway since she is under 18?

Re: Junevile driver's liability

My understanding is that it is a strict and limited law, but there is a Minnesota statute under which parents can be liable for damages caused by their children. So yes you might be liable. Best if she at least waits until she is 18.
