Legal Question in Employment Law in Minnesota

I am in Minnesota and I'm wondering about my employer trying to "claw back" sales commissions (many from more than a year ago) because of a customer not paying and us writing them off. I should also note that my company allowed this customer to run their credit up with us far beyond what is typical (not by my choice). Can they do this? Also, what about the taxes I paid on the money they want to take back? Thanks.

Without a written contract with that penalizing clause they would NOT be authorized to dock you ( and hold you liable for their lack of effectiveness in collecting payment).

I am in Eden Prairie if you wish to consult.
