Legal Question in Employment Law in Minnesota

Terroristic threats in the workplace.

I have been threatened at work. A fellow employee asked me, " I need to know where you live so when I get fired I can come to your house and kill you." This same employee asked another co-worker where I lived so he could go to my house and shoot me. The problem is my manager and the employee who threatened me are good friends. I approached the employee and stated" I refuse to live under threats and bullying, this behavior must stop." He went to the manager and said I threatened him and now I am under fire. What are my legal rights in a situation like this? I have documentation stating I am a good employee, etc. I have witnesses to the threats, but I am in danger of losing my job because the truth is being perverted. In light of the recent senseless violence at Littleton, CO, I feel I should not have to work under these conditions much less lose my job for reporting the threat. Please help.

Re: Terroristic threats in the workplace.

I offer no legal opinion regarding your situation due to the lmited facts presented. I do believe you should make a written statemetn to the company human resource dept and thier legal counsel regarding your situation. You should also report the statement to the police. Obviously witnesses to any events will be important. While I do not wish to needlessly alarm you, it appears that such statemtns can be precedent to other acts, so you are reasonable in your concern. Good luck
