Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Minnesota

I have a conciliation suit for return of security deposit from an ex-landlord. I have decided to accept their verbal settlement offer. Is their a proper format for the acceptance letter? Do I stop the proceedings before or after I receive payment? The court date is approaching and I don't want to miss my deadline for serving them and miss my day in court. Should I still serve them and then just submit paperwork to stop the suit later? It will cost me more money to serve them as I have to pay the sheriff to deliver the summons and would like to avoid that if possible.
