Legal Question in Traffic Law in Minnesota

Hit and run?

I was recently driving home and

upon arriving at home, i noticed my

mirror on the passenger side had

been knocked off. I had hit another

car on a street on my way home,

which was fairly narrow. I didn't

know i had hit another car til i was

home because i had my music up

fairly loud. the cops came and towed

my car without my knowledge and

impounded it. They did all this

without talking to me at all. Just

woke up and my car had been

removed from in front of my house.

What type of fines or other stuff am i

looking at? It was an honest mistake

and it happened only a few blocks

from my home!!! what do i do?

Re: Hit and run?

You may be charged with a hit and run or leavingthe scene of an accident which is a misdemenor punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a $1000 fine. Certainly a defense is a lack of intent to leave the scene, but that may be a matter of credibility if the prosecutor decides to push it to a trial. With a lawyer, it is quite possible to have the matter stayed so that you have no criminal record so long as restituion is paid.
