Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Minnesota

Estate a Big Mess

Husband's mom died Oct 2001. Sister who was appointed PR of estate sealed up house wouldn't let any siblings in. Looted house of all good stuff(antiques etc) loaded them up in a rental truck and took them home. Also threw out boxes and boxes of paperwork without looking at them. Before she was able to seal up house 2 other sisters took stuff out of house.

PR sister has made no accounting of distribution of personal property.

So, 3 sisters got good stuff, 3 siblings got mainly junk and another sister was able to purchase house for $30,000 under market value. She sold it a year later for a profit of $40,000.

PR sister has sent final accounting for siblings to sign. She has made no accounting of who got what. And she is charging each sibling $1,000 for her work, is charging us $2,000 for the rental truck to move all the stuff she looted out of house, $4,000 for her credit card bill (with no accounting of how it was used) and her phone bills $850).

She stayed in a casino when she was in MN. We were also billed for her hotel bill. Should we have to pay all these charges without having an accounting of where the money went?

Re: Estate a Big Mess

You have a right to a complete accounting, but to object to your sister's accounting and require more specifics as to what was taken from the house, etc., and also object to the fees, you need to file objections with the court and petiton the court to have a hearing on the account. This type of proceeding is usually handled by an attorney.
