Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Minnesota

Do I have the right to be paid?

I was recently contacted and asked to sign off (relinquish interest) on a title for property that I have an undivided 1/8 interest in (per the probate court and stated on the title as such) so that this person may transfer title to his son. My stepmother sold the property to this person under contract for deed (apparently over the past 15 years). This was her life estate as I understand it. By her selling the property does she forfeit the life estate rights and does she owe me that undivided 1/8 interest? I do not know the details of the sale nor the amounts and I will not sign anything until I understand this.

A life estate is just that, an interest for that person's life. Only that interest can be alienated. the purchaser would have no right to the langd as an ultimate owner since the seller did not have that interest to sell.
