Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Minnesota

Probate endgame

It is difficult to find basic information for the layman about the routine procedures involved with any part of probate. My father's estate is coming to a close in supervised probate, and I want to know if I'll have a chance to review the PR's final accounting before or on the last court date. Will the other heirs have a chance to object to anything, eg, before the case is closed? Would we know what to say if we came across a problem, and if not, would the judge help us there? In short, what usually happens at the close of probate regardless of specific complications between different estates? In my case, the PR is also an heir, and has an attorney, but we don't get much info from either of them. Thanks in advance for any light you can shed.

If you got to this site then you can find and review the statutes on the internet. The Minnesota statutes and Probate rules are on line and the PR's duties etc are listed there.

You should be provided with a copy of the final accounting well in advance of the hearing. If something looks fishy, you can object; but this is a complicated process and that's what lawyers are for.

It would be a good idea to consult a lawyer right now. The lawyer could call the probate court, find out what's going on and then translate that into English for you.

Good luck.
