Legal Question in Criminal Law in Mississippi

felony possession charge

i have been denied food stamp benefits because of a conviction for felony possession. I have served my time. Gone thru Alchohol and drug rehab in prison and finished my probation. Do i have to have an expungement in mississippi in order to qualify for food stamps and low income housing? I am on ss disability and have been since 1996 because of bi polar disorder which is what caused the substance abuse issue in the first place. What do I do?

File an appeal to the denial and contact the South Mississippi Legal Services Office and the Miss. Mental Health Association for help. The legal office may be contacted at 111 Magnolia Mall #202, Biloxi Ms 39530, phn 228 374 4160. It provides (non-criminal) legal information and referral services to elder Mississippians by telephone consultation with an attorney. The primary focus of the Mental Health Association is to provide psychosocial rehabilitation services, including educational, recreational and advocacy needs of local mental health consumers through client-driven planning. The program is structured to include activities designed to support and enhance the role of functioning and recovering individuals who suffer from mental health and substance abuse problems, as well as other special life circumstances..
