Legal Question in Family Law in Mississippi

Beneficiary question please

Hello. My grandmother recently learned of two life insurance policies on her by her two sons. She wants to designate her daughter, (My Mom) as the sole beneficiary of her last will and testament as well as any and all life insurance policies on her life. How can she change those policies from my Uncles? She doesn't even remember signing those polices. She doubts the validaty of those policies, but my Uncles claim they have life insurance policies on their own mother. Can she cancel those life insurance policies or simply designate her daughter as sole beneficiary of all life insurance policies in her last will and testament? Thank you

Re: Beneficiary question please

Your Grandmother can change the beneficiaries only if she is the owner of the policy. If she does not own the policy, she cant change the beneficiary or cancel it. It is often the case, that the insured and the owner are two different people. Also, life insurance proceeds are not usually part of the estate unless the estate is the beneficiary of the policy (never a good idea in my opinion).

Im not sure I see the harm in her two sons being the beneficiaries of life insurance policies that they have likely paid the premiums on for many years. If they are paying for it, then certainly they are entitled to any benefits from the policies.
