Re: child custody

Before traveling to the other state, retain the services of an attorney who practices before the local court that will decide your petition for expedited custody. Register your child custody determination in accordance with Miss. Code. Section 93-27-305 if in Mississippi or similar law of the other state so it can be served on the other parent at least 20 days prior to the visitation. Try to do this as far in advance of the visitation as possible.

Take a certified copy of the order confirming registration and a certified copy of the visitation order with you when you go to pick up the child. If the custodial parent fails to transfer the child immediately file for expedited enforcement of child custody in accordance with Miss. Code. Section 93-27-308 and expect the hearing to occur on the next business day of court.
