How can an unemployed housewife who is abandoned by her husband determine her legal rights before she can see an attorney to decide what this husband can come back and get before she can make an appointment to see an attorney? Does she have to give up her home?

I'd go see an attorney now. He can't stop you from seeing an attorney. I can tell you this, you will get to keep everything you brought into the marriage because it is considered premarital property.
