Legal Question in Employment Law in Mississippi

privacy laws

I am an employer who is questioning the validity of a physician certification provided by an employee for multiple absences. Is it permissible for me to call the physician myself to validate the certification of absences? Thank you.

Exactly what you have to do depends on a number of factors. At a minimum, you must have the employee's permission to contact the physician. Depending on if you have FMLA issues, there may be some additional steps that have to be taken.
