Legal Question in Social Security Law in Mississippi

Is my child eligible?

MY 10 yeard old daughter has not received support from her father in 10 years. He recently passed away. Is she eligible to receive SSI benefits from him?

Re: Is my child eligible?

If you have had paternity tests done before the father's death or have a court order of admission of paternity, your child probably qualifies for survivors' benefits.

If you don't have evidence like this before death, it is much harder to prove entitlement. Not impossible but much tougher.

Go ahead and apply. There are disadvantages to an application.
