Legal Question in Traffic Law in Mississippi

Confidentiality regarding suspension of license and warrant

Upon failure to pay traffic fine a warrant officer came by my home. I was at work. He left a business card with my neighbeor with information regarding my traffic violation and the fact that the local court had suspended my license and that I would be arrested if the fine was not paid immediately. I feel that this was an infringement upon my right to privacy. Was he legally right in doing this?

What you describe sounds lawful.

Re: Confidentiality regarding suspension of license and warrant

No rights of privacy allow individuals to violate the law and avoid the consequences for so doing. You should keep in mind that the warrant officer who came by your home is just that--a warrant officer. He/she serves warrants. In other words, they would have not come to see you if they didn't have a warrant for your arrest. So, instead of tracking you down, wherever you were, as the warrant required them to do, and arresting you in front of your employer or family or whomever, they were kind enough to leave a card and give you another chance to do what you should have done already. That is not only legal, but you should thank the officer for not arresting you at your first available opportunity. You should also pay the fine asap and avoid any futher violations of your "privacy."
