Legal Question in Traffic Law in Mississippi

Old Tickets in Mississippi

I just found out that I have some old tickets in Mississippi. One is for no insurance, I think one was for speeding, and one for improper tag. These tickets are from several years ago, yet Mississippi has a hold on my license so I can't get a license here in illinois where I've lived for over 3 years now. Is there a statute of limitations on those fines?

Re: Old Tickets in Mississippi

I think not. In most, if not all, states the statute of limitations would limit the amount of time the state (or county, or city) has to bring the charges. Since you got the tickets, you were charged so no statute of limitations is going to help you. Also, if you failed to appear in court on your court date, the charges normally remain pending until they are taken care of or you are arrested on a warrant, taken into custody, and brought to court. The good news is that you can hire a local attorney in the jurisdiction where the charges are pending to find out what needs to be done to take care of everything now. Once the tickets are taken care of, you should be able to obtain an Illinois driver's license. Good luck.
