Music Copyright

If I buy a CD and I copy some of the songs to another CD for my personal use only, will I be violating US copyright laws?

No. You may make an archival backup for your own use. You may not sell or give away the copy you make. You may not create a situation where the two copies can be enjoyed at the same time either.
