Legal Question in Consumer Law in Missouri

My husband and I bought a 77 Corvette. We wanted to have it painted and took it to and individual (we'll call him Jason) who was recommended by a friend. We also bought approx $2,000 in parts (window seals, new dash, etc.). Jason was given half down with the rest to be given to him at completion. All of the parts were left with Jason.

We took the car to Jason in Sept 2010. He still has not finished the project. Everytime we call or go by, he has some excuse ie: kids sick, can't pay heating bill, family problems, etc. My husband is a good person and usually offers to Help the guy when he has these excuses by giving him money. He even gave the guy a wood burning stove and built him a flu. Jason has since been taken to court by another individual and lost. This has made my husband miserable, sick with headaches and worry, and causes us to argue.

The car is presently completely stripped, seats, dash and door panels. It has been painted, but the guy tells us it "needs buffed" first. He has said that since October. My husband feels he hasn't completed the job because he sold the parts. We don't know what to do. We want the car back. He is obviously not going to complete the job. Can we go get the car, even though it is in pieces? What about the parts? We have been told the parts are stored at a second location.

Can you please tell me what direction to take? Thank you so much for your time.

It sounds like you need to get a tow truck and go get the car, out hire an attorney to write to "Jason" giving him thirty days to finish the work.

Good luck
