Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Missouri

I had a pay day loan 6 years ago. The Check was written on august 6th of 2006 for the amount of $400. I was recently contacted by a woman that told me to contact Charles Clarke and gave me his numner. Charles claimed to to an attorney and told me that I had to pay off the check today or charges would be filed tomorrow. Payday loans are horrible and I have paid them well over the 400 that i borrowed. Can they Charge me with a crime after almost 6 years. I live in Missouri.

What you describe is a communication with a debt collector. Federal law prohibita a collector from threatening criminal prosecution in order to coerce a payment from a debtor. You should contact the attorney generals office, and consult directly with civil practice attorney in your area
