Legal Question in Criminal Law in Missouri

kids and fire

my husband & I went in the house to use the restroom, he to grab a pop, our boys were riding bikes in the road in front of our house, all the kids around here do.we came back outside only a couple of minutes later and our neighbors garage was on fire with our children running from it.It was obvious what had happened. My husband put the fire out but the building is ruined. We live in Missouri and I'm sure social services will somehow get involved. What should we do to protect our family and what can we expect to come? We made our kids talk to the officer and tell him what happened, they admitted to doing it. They said they were curious what was in there, and there ended up being matches and gas cans just barely inside the door and poof. Luckily no one was hurt and the garage wasn't attached to their home. We are good parents and watch our children closely, I can't believe it happened so quickly. We are both scared to death we'll loose our kids now over this. Any advice would be really appreciated. The officer told us the report would go to juvenile.

Re: kids and fire

It is unclear just how long your husband was inside getting his pop, or you to use the restroom. That time may be important to DFS, depending upon the age of your children. Teh juveniel court will take you chil(ren) age(s) into accout nin deciding whether to pursue a juveniel criminal charge against them. If they do, you will likely have to pay for the damages.

It may do you well to confer directly with an attorney in yrou area, so that you can provide more facts than are possible in this limited forum.

Good Luck
