Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

Changing Support Payee

Do I need a lawyer to change the person I pay support to? Right now I pay it to my ex, but my daughter is now saying that her mother is really into drugs and is stealing money from my daughter. I'd really like to pay my daughter since they depend on my support for their rent. For reference, my daughter is 18 and I'm not sure I can do anything to help her out. She has signed a lease with her mother so I can't really get her to move out.

Thanks for your time.

Re: Changing Support Payee

I believe that the law would allow for a modification of any existing Court Order under the facts as you state them. But, first, if your daughter is 18 she is emancipated unless she is in college and complied with all of the statutory requirements or has special needs which would extend her emancipation. You may certainly call me for a free telephone consultation at 314-727-2822, and if this case is in one of the counties where I normally practice I might be able to offer my services. In any event, I wish you the best of luck!
