contempt
my boyfriend is going through a divorce. we had an affair and conceived a child before he left his wife. i am worried that i might be subpoenaed to testify against him. what is the penalty for contempt of court if i refuse to go and testify?

If you refuse to honor the subpoena, the party requesting it may ask the court to issue a "capias' which is a court order much like a warrant under which the sheriff is ordered to bring your body into court. I suppose they could also seek some punishment through a contempt proceeding but this would be unusual.
