Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

Ex Parte Restrainint Orders

I have had to file a restraining order against my boyfriend who resides in my house. We have been in contact however and he now wants me to stop the proceedings before the appointed court date of August 23, 2002. While he has never hit or punched me, he has pulled my hair, knocked me to the floor, pushed, poked, and chocked me on numerous occasiions and he can be very verbally abusive when I've ''made him mad''. I am unsure of how to stop the order and what my future legal rights to protection would be if I do. He says he will seek counseling and anger management help. I am unsure of what to do at this point. Please advise as soon as possible.

thank you.

Re: Ex Parte Restrainint Orders

Do not under any circumstance drop your petition for an order of protection!!! Believe me, you need all of the help you can get if you are going to avoid being physically hurt by this person. Even with an order of protection all you have is a piece of paper. Your boyfriend can still violate the order, and hurt you any time he pleases. All you can do is call the police and by that time it may be too late. Then he could be jailed for violating the order but that would be after you were hurt. If you have gotten this far, then it is obvious that his behavior represents a very real danger to you and you should do EVERYTHING you can to protect yourself. Let him get counseling or treatment and see what happens, but protect yourself first!
