Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Missouri

A service repair person hit our dog in our driveway while turning around (in a non-designated area). Are they responsible for her vet bills? Wouldn't this be covered by their insurance? We are rural. She was put up in the garage, but they needed to get to the fuse box. I asked them if she was bothering them and they said no.

P.S. I'm not sure what area of law this is under.

Thank You, DMM

Hi. In some instances, the insurance company of the service company will be responsible for reimbursing you for all vet expenses incurred. A few additional details would be needed to determine if they are likely liable. For example, was the dog on a leash or otherwise restrained? Was the driver talking on a phone, or otherwise distracted, from paying attenton? Also, did the police respond, and was a report made? The circumstances would have to indicate some negligence on the part of the driver, generally speaking. Also, what is the amount of vet bills incurred and is there any permanent injury to your dog?

I am a Missouri attorney that handles injury claims in most parts of the state and I have settled dog injury cases in the past. I can be reached at [email protected]. Thank you.
