Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Missouri

A man came into my life and helped me through a bad time,.in short he stepped in when my dad was killed in a house fire,. his native name was running fox. Almost a year ago I was playing drums for this band and I got on the subject of RF and I told them the story of how it all came to be and some life lessons I learned from him. A few months ago I lost interest in the band,. I have a full time job, it was 30 miles one way to practice and I just recently got married too and I'm 34, my prime for that has moved on so to speak,. I'm not a kid anymore I need to focus on important stuff. So today I hear there's a song about Running Fox, it's the story I told,.I didn't give anyone permission to use this,. it's a perversion of his name and his memory. Do I have any ground.

Copyright infringement of your story. However, you would need an attorney to fight this battle and it won't be cheap. You said in your question you "need to focus on important stuff." I take that to mean profitable stuff, stuff that will pay your bills. Fighting this battle on a currently unregistered copyright on a story will probably cost you more than you will win. If, however, you feel you owe it to RF and want to fight this as a matter of principle, knowing it will cost you money, call me.
