Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Missouri

eviction by landlord

My son was evicted from his rental home unbeknownst to me and my boat was in his yard. The landlady posted all his belongings on craigs list and people came by and took everything. Can I get my boat back somehow, I have clear title as legal owner, etc. In addition, one of his friends lost several thousand $$ of band equipment.

Re: eviction by landlord

I would need to find out more facts in order to properly evaluate any claim which you may have. There are specific rules with evictions that must be followed by landlords. Also, there are requirements for selling property left by a tenant as to whether the property was abandoned. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance to you.

Re: eviction by landlord

You have an action for coversion by the landlord and for trespass to chattels. You probably have other legal remedies and no one should be able to title the boat when you have the clear title. I would suggest you file a police report on the boat since taking the boat without a title would be an act of either fraud or theft.

You need to see an attorney right away if you want to get your boat back. Any delay will work against you.

Good luck.
