The answer as to who should pay is very fact dependent. It is unlikely that the school will volunteer to pay. You may not be able to force them top pay, unless they contributed or caused teh injury.

That leaves you and the other boy's parents. You did not indicate whether your son was attacked, lost a fight he was voluntarily in, or was the unfortunate victim of an accident.

You might consult directly with an attorney in your area. They can assess your situation after getting more of the facts. Perhaps a letter from that lawyer might spur the other paretns to reimburse you for some or all of the medical bills.
