It varies. You should not settle your claim with the insurance company until you are absolutely sure that you know what all of your damages are. Anohter very important thing for you to know is the applicable statute of limitations which will prevent you from prosecuting a lawsuit if necessary if you wait too long. The insurance company may just be waiting it out in the hope that you blow the statute of limitations. If that happens they will not be paying you anything. Please consult with an attorney.
