Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Missouri

we purchased a home 5 weeks ago from an exisitng home owner, They didn't dislcose any basement leaking problems during the sale or in the final contract. We have had some water leakeage in the basement two weeks ago and blew it off but today our basement has a inch or water in one length of the foundation. we installed new carpeting and it may be ruined. Do we have any legal actions to take against the previous owners for not giving full disclosure.

A home seller may be liable to a buyer if the seller knew of a latent defect but did not disclose it to the buyer. If you noticed basement leaking problems prior to the sale, the seller may not be liable. However, if the seller hid the defect under fresh paint or caulking you might have a remedy. What did the seller disclose prior to the sale? Did you have a professional examine the house for defects prior to the sale?
